  • Advising Joy Drive Midland in a US$340 million acquisition of properties in the Midland Basin of West Texas in 2017, in the structuring of a drilling and development program with the operator on the acquired properties, and in the subsequent $400 million refinancing of the capital program through a drillco arrangement.


  • Advising non-operating working interest owners in their proportionate part of 2023 $1.5 billion sale of Midland Basin assets to Diamondback Energy


  • Special oil and gas counsel to non-operating working interest owners in litigation with Jonah Energy regarding joint operating agreement issues in the Jonah Field, southwestern Wyoming


  • Advising the developer of the multi-billion-dollar Aurora Highlands master planned community in the city of Aurora, Colorado regarding issues arising from proposed oil and gas development of minerals underlying the project area 


  • Advising exploration and production companies in numerous acquisitions and sales of oil and gas properties in Eagle Ford shale and Permian Basin of Texas.

  • Advising Denver-based operators in the acquisition of oil and gas leasehold interests and producing properties in the Denver-Julesburg Basin.


  • Advising seller in sale of 100-year-old oil field in Larimer County, Colorado

  • Advising buyer in the acquisition of mineral interests in the Midland Basin.

  • Advising major surface developers regarding oil and gas issues impacting development of residential projects in Adams and Weld Counties, Colorado.

  • Advising landowners in Adams County, Colorado regarding the leasing of their property for oil and gas development and the negotiation of surface use agreements with oil and gas operators addressing anticipated residential development.


  • Advising landowner is leasing of Colorado ranch for helium development with negotiation of associated surface use agreement

  • Advising the City and County of Denver in leasing Denver International Airport for Niobrara shale exploration and development.

  • Representation of landowners in negotiation of surface use agreements and oil and gas leases for oil and gas development covering ranches in Colorado Western Slope.


  • Advising Sundance Energy, Inc. on $220 million acquisition of producing oil and gas properties in the Eagle Ford Shale from Pioneer Natural Resources Co.

  • Advising Sundance Energy Australia Limited on its US$100 million acquisition of oil and gas properties in the Eagle Ford Shale through Australian merger with Texon Petroleum Limited.

  • Advising Sundance Energy, Inc. on US$172 million sale of North Dakota oil properties.

  • Advising a prominent Houston-based family group in the sale to Chesapeake Exploration of undeveloped Haynesville Shale rights underlying producing oil and gas wells in east Texas for US$142 million.


  • Advising Denver-based private equity company on renegotiation of Nevada molybdenum mining lease

  • Advising a Denver-based company in the acquisition of coalbed methane properties in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming.

  • Advising Bill Barrett Corp., Antero Resources Corp., and Blue Sky Gas Storage in connection with extensive rulemaking of Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) to provide greater environmental, public health, and stakeholder protection in the conduct of oil and gas operations.

  • Assisting Antero Resources in submission of comments to Garfield County Board of County Commissioners on Health Impact Assessment for oil and gas prepared by the Colorado School of Public Health.


  • Advising oil and gas operators and oilfield service companies in the negotiation and drafting of master service agreements.


  • Advising Colorado Oil and Gas Association in drafting and legislative advocacy with respect to Colorado's innovative legislation, Senate Bill 237, on reconciling competing land development and oil and gas operations in the Greater Wattenberg Area of Northeast Colorado.

  • Advising the City of Colorado Springs oil and gas task force in the development of recommendations for regulation of oil and gas operations within the city.

  • Advising an energy company in the acquisition and development of Utah tar sands.


  • Advising a private company in the determination of ownership of gas storage rights on Utah tribal lands.

  • Advising Westport Resources Corporation on US$500 million acquisition of natural gas properties in Natural Buttes area of Uinta Basin from affiliates of El Paso Corporation.

  • Advising Westport Oil and Gas Company, L.P. on US$350 million acquisition of natural gas properties in South Texas from a private seller.
